The Battle Is His

By Pastor Aaron Keller

I was never enlisted in the military, but my grandfather was.  The older I get the more i comprehend how stressful and hard battle must be.  While I have never been in an actual battle we face spiritual battles regularly.  In Ephesians 6:12 “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

I have noticed that my time spent with God is reflected in my responses to battle.  If I have been prayed up, reading the bible and spending time meditating on Him, I can stand strong.  If I haven’t spent appropriate time doing those things, I tend to walk in fear and feel like I cannot stand against what I am facing.

Wendy and I have had our share of battles.  Battles in our marriage, battles for the kids health and regular occurrences that might seem like the walls are closing in.  We have found we are only confident when we give it to the Lord.  Hezekiah as a king was confident in his relationship with the Lord, but one day he received a letter from the king of the Assyrians that said, ‘we are going to war with you.’  He knew immediately if he went up against them they didn’t have the man power.  So he did what any Godly man would do, he took the matter to prayer.

2 Kings 19:14-1914 After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, he went up to the Lord’s Temple and spread it out before the Lord. 15 And Hezekiah prayed this prayer before the Lord: “O Lord, God of Israel, you are enthroned between the mighty cherubim! You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You alone created the heavens and the earth. 16 Bend down, O Lord, and listen! Open your eyes, O Lord, and see! Listen to Sennacherib’s words of defiance against the living God.17 “It is true, Lord, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all these nations. 18 And they have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burned them. But of course the Assyrians could destroy them! They were not gods at all—only idols of wood and stone shaped by human hands. 19 Now, O Lord our God, rescue us from his power; then all the kingdoms of the earth will know that you alone, O Lord, are God.”

Hezekiah had the boldness to stand because of God.  Before you go into battle, it is vital to turn it over to the Lord.  Apart from Christ, we can do nothing.  Trust in Him, cast all your cares on Him and you will find yourself victorious.
